Salary Est:- R 165000-325000/- Yearly

  • A Master’s degree in Mining Engineering with at least ten years’ experience in underground mining, preferably narrow reef hardrock gold and/or platinum group metals (PGM) mining.
  • Experience in Open Cast mining operations will be an added advantage;
  • Mine overseer’s certificate of competence or Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency will be an added advantage;
  • A Doctoral degree in Mining Engineering or related field would be advantageous;
  • Must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or qualify to register with ECSA;
  • Demonstrated leadership in a mining engineering technical area for at least three years;
  • At least three years’ experience in mining-related research;
  • Strong understanding of the mining technology landscape;
  • Experience in use of at least one mine planning software;
  • Experience in mining extraction processes (drill, blast, loading and hauling);
  • Basic understanding of finance, accounting, cash flow, interest rates, economic cycles, costing, etc.;
  • Ability to build and interrogate techno-economic models;
  • Project management experience;
  • Extensive data analysis and management experience;
  • Experience in mine planning and designing (including use of mine planning software);
  • Knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other applicable legislation and practices;
  • Ability to lead innovation and technology adoption in the mining industry;
  • Ability to generate new knowledge and innovate;
  • Good interpersonal and team skills;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team;
  • Problem-solving and solution-seeking orientation;
  • Change management and people management skills
  • Excellent English communication, presentation and writing skills, including the publication of technical outputs; and
  • Networking abilities to proactively establish and maintain links with internal and external stakeholders and clients, as well as the research community.
  • All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
